Planned Giving

The gift transfer needs to be paid directly from your IRA to The Foundation for Ellis Medicine to ensure you receive the following benefits:

- Donors will benefit from this gift even if they do not itemize their deductions because a QCD transfer does not count as taxable income, like other distributions from your IRA, and the gift is NOT tax deductible.

- If you are age 73 or older, a QCD transfer can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year.

- Since the gift does not count as taxable income, a QCD from your IRA can reduce your annual income level.

- You can minimize capital gains taxes when you fund your gift with appreciated property.

- You can use a QCD to fund a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA). A donor can take advantage of this once in their lifetime with a maximum QCD transfer of $53,000. CGA rates have never been better. This gifting option provides many benefits.

- You will make an impactful difference for your community now.

Life Insurance Policies: When the original purpose for a life insurance policy no longer applies such as providing for children who are now grown or providing financial security for a spouse you can gift The Foundation for Ellis Medicine the policy to either cash in now or let it accrue in value until your death.

Charitable Gift Annuities (CGA): A way for you to support Ellis and feel confident that you have dependable income in your retirement years. Donors age 70 and older, with a minimum gift of $10,000, can create a CGA with cash, appreciated assets or through a Qualified Charitable Distribution from an IRA,* and you and/or up to two beneficiaries will receive fixed annual payments for life at a very attractive rate based on the age of the beneficiaries. Charitable Remainder Trusts: An irrevocable trust that let you donate highly appreciated assets, such as stocks, to Ellis and draw annual income for life or for a specific time. The income amount is usually a percentage of the trust's total value. At the end of the trust term or the donor's lifetime, the funds remaining will benefit Ellis Medicine.

A charitable trust usually requires a large sum of cash or appreciated assets to establish and requires the expert advice of an attorney.
