THE FOUNDATION

Ways of Giving

Contributions can be made in a variety of ways: cash, check, credit card, stocks and bonds, life insurance, real estate, retirement plan assets, personal properties and planned gifts. Contributions can be made as a one-time gift or can be set up as a pledge to be donated over a specified period of time, which includes months or years.

Donors are encouraged to contact the Foundation Office at 518.243.4600 if they have questions about a deferred gift or are considering a gift of an appreciated asset.

Remember someone special with a lasting tribute

A tribute gift is a meaningful way to convey sympathy to the bereaved, memorialize a loved one, commemorate a special occasion, or honor someone special. Through our Gifts of Gratitude program, you can also recognize and express your appreciation of a physician, nurse, or hospital staff member who has made a special impact. We offer several options to make your tribute gift.

Naming Opportunities

The Foundation provides naming opportunities to recognize the support and contributions of the generous gifts from those individuals, corporations and foundations who help us achieve our goals. Ask about naming opportunities for upcoming projects by calling The Foundation for Ellis Medicine at 518.243.4600.

Gifts of Stock

The best stocks to donate are those that have increased greatly in value, and those producing a low yield. If you sell appreciated assets held for more than one year, your gains are subject to a long-term capital gains tax—unless you donate them directly to a tax-exempt organization like The Foundation for Ellis Medicine. Stock must be transferred to The Foundation (prior to sale) to achieve tax savings.

A philanthropic partnership provides corporations the opportunity to drive advances in cardiac services, orthopedics, oncology, neurology, and women's care, that impact our families and neighbors, now and in the future.

While unrestricted gifts allow us to support our most urgent needs, you can align your giving more precisely with your business objectives by giving to one of our many programs or specialties. Stewart's Holiday Match, for example, has supported sending children who receive primary care through the Ellis Family and Pediatric Health Centers, to summer camp programs.

In-kind gifts of products and technology can be key to advancing the lifesaving work of Ellis Medicine. It makes perfect sense to channel products to the people who need them most. Nestle, for example, provides infant formula for new moms. Donating printing, graphic design, or consulting services or contributing goods such as prizes for events or office supplies may be the most effective way for your company to support The Foundation for Ellis Medicine.

Matching gifts support employees in their personal philanthropy and encourages involvement in community organizations such as Ellis Medicine. Matching gifts are strong incentives for your employees to support Ellis Medicine and endears the company to its employees. In addition, matching gifts allow you to fulfill corporate philanthropic obligations, support a worthy organization, and receive a tax benefit. General Electric employees and retirees, for example, contribute annually to the many capital and program needs of Ellis Medicine. GE matches these gifts dollar-for-dollar and provides more than $200,000 annually to Ellis Medicine.
